The Versa Hatchback offers more than you expect: a powerful 122-hp engine, 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, 15" wheel covers, AM/FM/CD audio system, auxiliary audio input jack, power windows and door locks, dual power body-color outside mirrors, rear intermittent windshield wiper with washer, 60/40 split fold-down rear seats and Vehicle Dynamic Control with Traction Control System.

The front-wheel-drive Versa is offered in 4-door hatchback and 5-door sedan body styles; the sedan is offered either with 1.6- or 1.8-liter engine variants, while the hatch is only available in 1.8-liter form.

A 107-hp, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine is included on those basic 1.6 models, but the rest of the lineup comes with a 122-hp, 1.8-liter four. Both engines have a modern aluminum-block, double-overhead-cam design. Models with the 1.6-liter engine get a standard 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed automatic is available. The 1.8-liter models come with a standard 6-speed manual and offer optional 4-speed and CVT transmissions.

Among all these powertrain combinations, the 1.8-liter feels sprightly with the 6-speed manual and confident with either of the automatic options. The 1.6-liter feels a bit slower with the 4-speed automatic, but is capable of achieving 26 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Opt for the 1.8-liter and CVT for the highest mileage, at 28 mpg city, 34 highway.

The Versa has a rather conventional suspension layout for a small car with struts in front, a torsion-beam setup in back and stabilizer bars. Ride quality is smooth and well-damped, with a more settled, secure feel overall than many other small cars and the electric power steering feels precise and confidence-inspiring. The standard braking system includes discs in front and drums in back and anti-lock brakes are standard on all but the 1.6 Base model, on which they are a $250 option.

Passive safety features are well-represented in the Versa; a full roster of airbags comes standard and includes front-seat chest-protecting side airbags as well as head-protecting side-curtain bags for front and rear outboard occupants. Active headrests are also included in front. However electronic stability control is only standard on the 1.8 SL model.

Whether you choose the sedan or hatchback, the Versa is surprisingly spacious inside for such a small vehicle; in particular, the back seat is unusual in that it can comfortably accommodate two adults, even with enough headroom for taller passengers-or three kids across in back. Hatchback models include a 60/40-split folding back seat that can accommodate larger cargo items.

Base 1.6 Sedans have very simple appointments and as they’re among the lowest-priced vehicles on the market, feature offerings are quite slim. 1.8 S are the least expensive models with the larger engine and include a few more features such as upgraded upholstery, chrome trim and a 120-watt CD sound system with aux input. Then 1.8 SL models step up to alloy wheels, a front armrest and an iPod interface. Top options are grouped into packages– most noteworthy packages include a Convenience Package that includes an Intelligent Key system, Bluetooth hands-free interface and leather trim and a Navigation/Satellite Package, which adds an in-dash navigation system and Satellite Radio capability. Anti-lock brakes, stability control and a moonroof round out the option list.

2011 Nissan Versa Model Changes

The Versa carries into 2011 with no significant changes after receiving a reconfigured feature set last year. The only minor equipment news includes the expansion of anti-lock brakes availability to all models.

2011 Nissan Versa Value

The Versa has one of the lowest base sticker prices of any vehicle for sale in the U.S., which makes it extremely attractive for anyone who’d like to get a new car (and a new-car warranty) on a used-car budget. But that’s not all it has going for it; the Versa has the ride quality of a larger car, as well as more interior space than most other cars its size (rivaled only, in practical terms, by the Honda Fit).

Nissan’s most affordable car also shined on other practical points– it’s consistently rated as one least expensive vehicles to own and it has received a ?good’ rating from the IIHS in several major categories.

2011 Nissan Versa Strengths

Smooth, refined ride; fuel economy; roomy back seat; low base price; low ownership cost; premium options available

The elegant Ferrari California faithfully reproduced in precise detail at very large scale with open roof. At 1:8 the model is approximately 60 cms (24 inches) long. The model is extremely accurate and was developed using original data. Each model is mounted on a carbon fibre base plate with a museum quality clear acrylic dust cover. Inside the cabin is recreated in precise and realistic detail with every piece of equipment and every button on the dash beautifully reproduced. Creating the master model took around 3,000 hours of work by a small team of highly skilled modelmakers. The master parts were then used to create moulds from which the components of each model of the limited edition of 199 were hand cast in prototyping resin. Each individual model then took around 300 hours more to finish and build. This is undoubtedly the best large scale model of the California available anywhere in the world. Each model in the edition of 199 pieces has a signed certificate of authentication and a unique edition numbered plate on the base.

If a vehicle does not look dynamic how are we supposed to believe that it drives dynamically? You have to be able to both see and feel its character. It is the same with talent: It is not enough just to have it, you have to be able to use it. Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design

Interior design

In the interior dynamics and elegance are represented in one flowing movement from the instrument panel to the door. This can instantly be felt. All of the high-quality control elements are ergonomically positioned for a perfect fit as soon as you take a seat. Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design

Driver orientation

It is the underpinning concepts that make the difference between a good automobile and an exceptional one. Active drivers know that these concepts deserve appreciation

See things from a new perspective

Every detail of the X3 expresses agility, style and dynamism. Strong, elegant lines underscore its fascinating temperament and sporting ambition. From the powerful bonnet through to the distinct rear, the X3 muscular proportions are hard to ignore. And the almost completely body-coloured bumpers and the elevated seat position add the finishing touches to its truly unmistakable character.

The interior of the BMW

It fun to investigate the details in the BMW X3. Colours, shapes and materials have been harmoniously combined to correspond with the highest standards in both function and design. From the instruments and trims to the seat fabric and seams, attention has been given to every last detail to ensure that the striking visual language of the exterior continues seamlessly into the interior.

The BMW restraint system

The safety belts are fitted with force limiters and tensioners with electronically controlled pyrotechnic actuators. In the event of a collision, the tensioner tightens the seatbelts in a fraction of a second for greater restraint. The seatbelts also prevent “submarining”, when passengers slide abruptly underneath the lap strap in an impact.

The airbag system

Airbags are another aspect of the BMW X3 comprehensive safety programme. The protection afforded by driver and front passenger airbags is augmented by side airbags. These side and head airbags are standard in front and rear. The Impact Depending System inflates only the appropriate airbags to the correct degree for maximum safety.

Hill Descent Control

Hill Descent Control (HDC) is a standard feature which drivers can activate when negotiating steep downhill gradients. This automatic speed control brakes each wheel individually as required, reducing the X3 forward motion to slightly more than walking speed. Drivers can vary their speed by using the accelerator or brake. This makes for a smoother, more easily controlled descent as drivers can concentrate fully on steering.

Efficiency

For driving pleasure in two worlds: whichever engine you choose, efficiency and performance are the hallmarks of both diesel and petrol engines in the BMW X5.

Eight-speed automatic transmission Steptronic

You do not have to fly business class to be able to experience instant acceleration to top speeds with negligible interruption. The eight-speed automatic transmission Steptronic not only ensures incredibly soft gear changes across all eight gears, it also significantly reduces fuel consumption.

Exterior design

Heading towards the sunset or illuminated by city lights: the BMW X5 instinctively draws gazes wherever it goes. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and powerful contours express its elegantly sporting nature

Interior design

Every landscape becomes worth seeing when you are viewing it from within the exclusive cabin of the BMW X5: fine woods, selected leathers and understated metal elements create an atmosphere of refined luxury.

Camera systems

A clear view in clear situations: up to five cameras give the BMW X5 a clear view of any situation
