As part of the holiday season, Nissan took it upon themselves to look back on a dozen of the most significant industry news stories of 2017. One of their chosen highlights involves the incredible 2018 Pathfinder and its Rear Door Alert technology.



Imagine that you’ve just headed to the store to pick up a variety of groceries, including some ice cream to cater to your sweet tooth. You happen to throw the bulk of the bags in the front passenger seat floorboard, but run out of room and place a few in the rear—including the aforementioned treat. When you arrive home, however, you rush inside with all your goods but neglect the few parcels left in the back. And that includes your chilled dessert—which, before you remember to return and grab it, turns into a soupy mush in the summer heat outside.



Such an event can be avoided, however. Nissan’s Rear Door Alert—included on the 2018 Pathfinder—works to prevent such mishaps by using advanced interior sensors. It leverages these to intelligently monitor all openings and closings and knows when you don’t return to grab your goods. When this happens, the crossover releases a triple horn honk to gain your attention before you run inside. Smart!
